We utilise present-day, state-of-the-art technology developed in Formula 1 in all our aerospace projects, specifically the innovative use of composite lightweight structures. To complement our aerospace design experience and capabilities, MGI has also recently become AS9100D certified.
In addition to launching the Lotus Racing F1 team, which later became the Caterham F1 Team, Mike established Caterham Technology and Innovation, the automotive design arm of the Caterham group. He also managed the Caterham side of the Caterham Alpine project with Renault. This unique insight and knowledge of the niche lightweight sportscar sector positions MGI to transfer relevant areas of technology from motorsport into the mainstream automotive sector, particularly the cost-effective use of lightweight composite solutions.
MGI’s impressive motorsport heritage uniquely positions us as one of the few organisations outside Formula 1 to have successfully started a modern Formula 1 team from scratch. Our design staff has extensive motorsport experience from Formula 1. We can handle any motorsport project from lightweight part design, through aerodynamic and vehicle dynamic programs. Our capabilities also include simulator technology and full international racing programs from single seater track day cars to competitive Formula 1 level.
Mike has sailed extensively offshore and has run full offshore sailing programs. He has competed in major offshore races, including the Transat Jacques Varbe 2013, and skippered his Class 40 boat Silvi Belle 2 to podium finishes in the RORC Fastnet and RORC Transatlantic races in 2015. Mike’s knowledge and interest in the marine sector combined with his background in motorsport uniquely positions MGI to deliver cutting-edge technology to the marine environment.

Our deep aerodynamic and Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) expertise is reinforced by industry leading management consultancy experience. Our staff is fully backed with cutting edge software computer aided engineering (CAE) tools including Siemens NX and SolidWorks design packages, Siemens TeamCenter PLM software and the full range of Altair Hyperworks solutions.

MGI is comprised of a unique skillset in race team management and engineering management. With over 25 years of Formula 1 technical management experience, Mike Gascoyne has personally been responsible for running some of the largest manufacturer sponsored teams, including Renault and Toyota.
Additionally, Mike and the MGI team activated and managed the 2010 entry of the Lotus Racing Team into F1, designing the car at MGI while Mike personally set up the team.
We can manage any racing project, from car part design to full works supported international racing programs. We bring the same management rigour and skills to all our engineering projects.
MGI specialises in design for production and cost-effective production across all platforms.
For composite projects we work closely with leading specialist production companies and have specific experience in cost-effective Vacuum Resin Infusion methods and Tailored Fibre Placement (TFP).
Mike Gascoyne pioneered the use of 3D printing in Formula 1 and MGI has our own in-house 3D printing capabilities.
